About The Hill
Activities
In 1994 Forest Hill Pharaohs had its start in Cleveland, Ohio. Our first Pharoah Hound was Ramses followed by Isis. After moving to central Ohio we took the advice of friends and started to show our hounds. The bug bit and having the extra room we aquired Anubis. Than we really went to the dogs with the arrival of littermates Tut and Kia. Peanut(1) and Kismet soon joined "The Gang"
Out of our first litter we kept sisters Kate and Allie. Out of our second we added J.R. and Jewel. In 2004 Hope, Boomer and Aramis the Whippet were added. And finally Kismets grand daughter Peanut(2) came to Forest Hill.
Conformation, Lure coursing, Agility and Obedience are some of the activities that the Pharaoh Hound and their owners enjoy. Conformation is where the dog is shown before judges who judge the dog according to the breed type set forth by the American Kennel Club. After earning 15 points the dog will be awarded his bench championship.
Lure coursing is simply a lure, a white plastic bag or in some instances a rabbit skin, tied to a line and pulled by a motor and pully system. The course is set in a zig-zag pattern. The dog, run in groups of three, is judged on speed, agility, his ability to follow the lure and his enthusiasm. The thrill of being on the open field causes their ears and nose to become flushed with excitement giving them the famous blush. Once a hound has finished his coursing championship, he is given the title Field Champion. A Pharaoh who has completed both his comformation and field championship is called a dual champion and given the prefix DCH. There is also an independant coursing organization, ASFA that many hound owners participate in.
There are other activities that are not recognized by the AKC that Pharaohs are participating in. Oval track and inline racing are two as well as Flyball. Flyball is a combination of agility and retrieveal in which dogs of different breeds compete against each other.
